Welcome
You might notice some exciting changes to this year's Beverley Literature Festival. Yes, there's still the great range of authors, events, and opportunities for creativity and conversation that you'd expect at Beverley, but with a deliberate omission.

Less poetry, so that we can do more poetry over the weekend of 11-13 June 2010 at our new dedicated poetry festival at Sewerby Hall, Bridlington; and many more creative writing opportunities for prose writers as a result of a new partnership between the Beverley and the University of Hull. This year's festival writer-in-residence Kachi Ozumba will also be offering a great value manuscript assessment service.

Our children's literature festival continues to grow (see centre pages) under the guidance of its new director Dorcas Taylor. We've lots of opportunities for young people to explore the way words and images go together, as well as to sit back and hear some fine authors and storytellers in the surroundings of that most important of buildings in any town - The Library!

We hope you enjoy our programme. And remember, books are great value (free from your library) - and the best of them, priceless.

John Clarke
Festival Director
